OTOPLASTY - EAR SURGERY

OTOPLASTY - EAR SURGERY

Otoplasty is a surgical procedure to correct certain alterations in the shape and size of the ears. These alterations may be genetic or acquired.

The most frequent condition is where the ear auricles are more separated from the skull, making them look bigger and wider.

Large ears become noticeable from childhood, which is why we recommend performing Otoplasty surgery between 8 and 10 years of age, especially in order to prevent these children from being mocked and taunted.

DETAILS OF DR. PEREZ'S TECHNIQUE

There are multiple surgical techniques to correct large ears. Dr. Perez performs this procedure by making an incision located in the back of the ear, where the excess cartilage can be removed from the ear. Afterwards sutures are placed, which are permanent. The auricle is brought closer to the skull, thus achieving a natural and definitive result.

Finally, the wound is closed with absorbable sutures.

POSTOPERATIVE RECOMMENDATIONS

OUR EXCELLENT RESULTS

ANESTHESIA
We recommend that patients under 12 years of age undergo Otoplasty under general anesthesia. In older children and adults, it is usually performed under local anesthesia.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER SURGERY?
Dr. Perez leaves a soft bandage around the head in order to protect the ears and help reduce swelling. This bandage is removed after 2 to 3 days.
HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY PERIOD?
Once the bandage is removed, patients can resume their normal activities around the 3rd or 4th postoperative day.
WILL THE EARS LOOK NATURAL?
One of the main advantages of the technique used by Dr. Perez, is that the result of the Otoplasty procedure is completely natural, because the structure of the ear cartilage is fully preserved and the natural curvatures of the ear are maintained.
