Neck Aging and the Hammock Lift Technique: Restoring Definition and Beauty
By Dr. Andrés Pérez Nieto.
Many individuals find it discomforting to witness the descent and sagging of their necks over time.
This is part of the facial aging process that primarily affects soft tissues, especially the neck, as there is no barrier to halt it.
Several structures converge in the neck, all impacted by this aging process:
- The skin progressively becomes thinner and more lax.
- The platysma muscle, extending like a hammock from one end to the other, becomes lax, sags, and often splits into two noticeable bands.
- Deposits of fat may increase in some individuals, adding weight to the neck.
All these factors contribute to the loss of the neck’s normal definition and angulation, resulting in a visibly sagging neck, with prominent central bands, especially during facial expressions.
The surgical technique I have developed to reverse these changes is the Cheek and Neck Hammock Lift. Essentially, this procedure involves a vertical lift and anchoring of the platysma muscle to specific fixed points, typically behind the ears.
In some cases, through an incision under the chin, I remove excess fat and correct existing bands.
With this approach, as you can observe, beautiful and noticeable changes are achieved:
- An angled and well-defined neck.
- Elimination of vertical bands.
- Evident improvement in facial contour.
One crucial piece of advice: the ideal technique for an excellent result is to perform the hammock lift simultaneously on both the neck and cheeks. Attempting to do it separately may lead to evident imbalances in facial contour.
If you are considering addressing neck aging through the Hammock Lift technique, I invite you to schedule a consultation to discuss your specific needs and explore the best solution to enhance your natural beauty.
